Trigger length expectations

I was testing out my Kickain yesterday in conjunction with the NerdSeq. The nerdseq has triggers of configurable length, starting with 5ms and working up in increments of 5 ms. I noticed I had to tweak this up (need to doublecheck the specific amount) in order to get the kickain to respond. Just wanted to confirm what the expected trigger length/height is (I didn't see it specified in the manual).

OK, I am getting stuck on the updating firmware. Using Chome, going to Daisey Web, connect with microUSB., push boot then reset, connect ... I don't see anything that is obvious a Daisey module but try to connect.

I never get the "Select, "DFU in FS Mode"". Tried updating drivers using Zadig. Any hints? I am on a Windows 11 machine.

I tried different PC's both a Mac and an old Win 10 machine. I cannot seem to get the Select, "DFU in FS Mode" on any machine. I must be missing a step. Any hints? Also I there is no indication that the board is in Bootloader mode ... not sure if there should be a flashing light or something like that. The computers don't seems to recognize the module.

Boot and reset need to be pressed simultaneously. Some PCs are really flakey when it comes to usb and Daisy, but the Zadig fix should work. Alternatively if you know a Mac or Linux user it’s more straightforward. You will need to see the DFU is FS mode menu item for it to work.

Got it to work with Zadig. I also noted that micro usb cables are finicky too. You threw me for a loop since it did not behave the same way when it powered up once I updated it. I notices all the dip switched were switched on so the center button in now a mute control. I tuned off the switches and it behaves as expected. Thank you for your support! Ed

The latest Kickain firmware is much more trigger sensitive. I think it’s around 5ms/3v.

Hello Everyone. I am trying to trigger Kickain with Erica Synths Drum sequencer. The trigger length is at max. Abou 10 ms by the manual. It does not trigger. I connect it to a PAM clock signal it works fine. Any hints on how to solve this would be appreciated. Ed

Hi Nicholas. Thanks for getting in touch. Kickain should trigger on a +3v input of 5ms, it’s near instantaneous but other electrical characteristics such as the overall impedance could alter this. I don’t have any actual data measurements on this so I’m interested in your experience using the nerdseq.

looking into this, I think we will can improve the trigger sensitivity in a future software update. The short delay is there to avoid double triggers but probably a bit on the cautious side at 5ms.

Please do! I did some tests with ADDAC104 triggered at same time as Kickain and with ADDAC104 audio routed through Kickain:

Both modules triggered from NerdSEQ. First four bars shows how the latency is (around 8ms!) next four bars has triggers to ADDAC104 delayed to compensate.

As for avoiding double triggers - why? Let the user decide how fast they want to trigger.. it might be cool to trigger at audio rates. Trigger at 3V on leading edge along with a couple of volts of hysteresis in trigger detection function is enough to avoid unwanted double triggering.

Thinking more on this, I guess triggering on leading edge would maybe not work well in conjunction with the accent functionality?
