1.1.3 Firmware Released

1.1.3 is a tech fix that addresses SD card loading errors that some people have reported. The SD loading time is speed limited to 50% for more reliable sound loading. Expect slower load times but please let us know if this is more reliable than 1.1.2 which is unrestricted. We would also recomend using a fast SD card on 1.1.2 before tring this version.

I sell many more Pianophonics in the US than Europe so the number of people having issues will be greater in the states, but 50/60hz aside we are ourselves looking for any clues as why the issue persists for some and not for others. My suspicion is on the SD cards corrupting the settings.dat file as it’s the only thing that’s changed between batches but because the issue isn’t repeatable it’s been really difficult for us to track it down.

I take it from your post that you are using the latest firmware and still getting freezes, occasionally or all the time? Is it only when you load a sound in? Let me know, the feedback really helps to diagnose it.

Firmware 1.1.2 Released

Today we’ve released firmware version 1.1.2 for Pianophonic. This addresses some stability issues when load from the SD card. We are also releasing a new factory sound card SD1_Smooth, this includes all the original factory sounds only they have been reprocessed using a new smoothing algorithm. The smooth versions are less susceptible to low frequency artifacts which could cause clipping and popping on some systems. Check it out here.

Is there any word on another update to fix the issues people are still having with the 1.12? i kept my second module in hopes that it will get a firmware fix one day. I hope this module doesn't get forgotten because it has a lot of promise.

Appears lifeless

I was having crazy problems - first nothing suddenly - a suddenly corrupted SD card seemed the answer and it did start almost working. Then, a new problem, it will follow 1V/oct cv sometimes, not others, where it will output a single note only. I had solved some similar issues with my Poly Cinematic by updating firmwear, so I did the same with Pianophonic, but now it wont respond to anything, no front panel lights at all.

The firmware update procedure is quite different on Pianophonic compared to Poly Cinematic. Check that you have done this correctly as you may have just installed a new boatloader and not completed the second stage where you boot up Pianophonic as a usb drive.

The v/oct issue is a limitation of Pianophonic itself where it can only transpose one octave up and one octave down, this includes the Pitch control so you may hit the limit early. The trick is to pick a root note over midi that is in the centre frequency of your tune, so a base line should start with a bass note.

Finally, we have new firmware coming out later this week that resolves the SD card issue, so worth waiting for that if you can.
